Course Notes
Watercolour - Getting Started.
A down to earth approach to understanding the basic skills of this wonderful medium. We will cover all the basic techniques employed in good representational watercolours.

Walking and Sketching
This break is designed to teach you the skills of executing brief, accurate and creative sketches in about 20/40 minutes. These kind of sketches are wonderful for capturing compositions for future paintings or for creating a diary of visual memories.

Painting Like Monet
This break is an exploration of the ideas and techniques of the Barbizon School otherwise known as the ‘Impressionists’. Monet was a leading exponent of the style and we shall study his thoughts and ideas about the depiction of light.

Watercolour - Autumn
This break will develop your general skills as a watercolorist and in particular help you to understand how to co-ordinate your colours to create a harmonious painting. If the weather is kind to us and we will work outside. If not I will have a good range of photographs to work from.

Drawing for the Terrified
This break is designed to teach you the skills of observational drawing. Drawing is a ‘skill not a gift’ and so anyone can learn. The course will cover the basic understanding of how to get everything on the page in the right place and in the correct proportions with accurate tone and texture.

Watercolour - Trees
We will cover the four seasons and look particularly at harmonising your choice of colours. We will work from life or from my sketches and photographs.
